Renowned Irish chef and business woman Domini Kemp came into the Dublin Wellness Centre to try some treatments.

We invited chef and entrepreneur Domini Kemp of Alchemy Juice Co, Hatch & Sons, Joe’s Coffee, Itsa Cafes and Feast Catering to try some treatments in the centre.

Domini has a keen interest in eating well, staying healthy and taking care of herself, particularly since she has had cancer twice and knows the importance of staying fit and focused while undergoing conventional treatment.

Her first choice was reflexology with the wonderful Elaine McLaughlin.

“Reflexology treatments and massages are top of my list when it comes to self-care. Elaine in the Dublin Holistic Centre is one of the best. She has an extremely thorough approach: while soaking your feet in a peppermint oil and Epsom salt bath, you go through a general health questionnaire before settling under some blankets. She kindly covers your eyes with a lavender eye patch which makes it so much easier to get lost in the treatment.

“For the next 60 minutes, you float away as she works her magic although every now and then, you feel a little jolt when she hits an area that’s clearly giving you trouble. For me it was my adrenals and shoulders that stood out as being tender spots.

“To say I zoned out was an understatement. My only regret is that I couldn’t have gone straight home to bed afterwards! Instead, I had to go back to work, but to be fair, the feeling lasted all evening and that night, I had one of the best night’s sleep I can remember. Elaine’s work is subtle but so specific and intuitive. I’m already looking forward to my next session with her!”

“If there was one word to describe the work Deirdre McGrath does, I would use ‘nurturing’. I am much more of a ‘no pain, no gain’ type of person when it comes to therapies. Deep tissue massages that border on deep torture is usually my preference, so it was with a bit of trepidation that I went for this extremely gentle treatment. However, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it is the subtlety of this treatment that is really the key to its effectiveness.

“Deirdre starts off with a gentle back massage before moving to feet, face and then the stomach. You get a sense that as a therapist, she ‘joins the dots’ for you in terms of balance and gentle healing. I would heartily recommend this for people who are feeling out of sorts and out of kilter, but who want something gentle and holistic – as opposed to feeling a bit pummelled.

“One of the best aspects is the follow-up and recommendations for home-tips that you can do to help balance out energy. I have been religiously doing my breathing and gentle movements which have made a nice difference to sleep quality. This is the type of treatment that is absolutely ideal for anyone going through a tough time of any type of conventional treatment, who would like to treat themselves to a gentle and holistic experience.”
