Each one of us experiences difficulties and challenges in life. Sometimes we are unable to deal with our problems and this can affect different aspects of our lives – our happiness, our relationships and our ability to cope with day to day living. Stress, anxiety, depression, bereavement, loss, trauma, self-esteem and relationship problems are some of the issues that bring people to counselling.
I believe that no matter how challenging the circumstances we find ourselves in, there is real possibility for change and a new direction. In the counselling environment the client has the opportunity to express thoughts, feelings and emotions and develop resources and skills. This enables them to cope with difficulties, which in turn can deepen their understanding and facilitate a way forward – leading to greater empowerment and a more fulfilling future.
Counselling deals with the issues affecting your life in the present. Psychotherapy helps to explore difficulties that relate to your past which are still influencing how you experience life today.
I am an experienced therapist with an Honours degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy attained from Dublin Business School. In addition, I have considerable life experience which enhances my professional ability. I adhere to the code of ethics of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
My therapeutic approach is humanistic and integrative and incorporates person centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapeutic approaches. Every individual is unique and therefore therapy and support is tailored accordingly. I work with adults on a one to one basis and offer a confidential setting in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
My therapeutic approach places emphasis on the relationship between the client and the therapist, which is based on trust, empathy, genuineness, compassion and an unconditional positive regard for the client. This enables the person seeking help to feel accepted and supported while expressing their feelings and emotions.
One single step can develop the motivation towards change-towards a better quality of life.
